Jaime Alise Yamanaka is a Japanese-American musician and writer based in Tokyo, working across poetry, prose, and song. Her work is shaped by presence and embodiment, coexistence, memory, and the resonance between Japanese and Western cultural influences.
She writes about emotion and its physical manifestations, and the dialogue between one's inner life and the world outside. Her words capture seemingly subtle, passing moments, and consider how attention can alter what is perceived, felt, and remembered through the human body.
She is the lead singer and lyricist for petalhead, the Tokyo-based indie pop duo, who released their debut album, The Uncaging of a Paper Crane, in 2025.
